Song Review: “Unlovable” by Beach Weather

After five years on hiatus, Beach Weather is back with a new single to herald in the end of the summer. The trio had been picking up again since January, playing their first show since 2017 at The Maine’s 8123 Fest, and are now ready to share the new music they’ve been working on with the whole world. This also coincides with a huge moment for the band, as their 2016 song “Sex, Drugs, Etc.” is climbing viral charts thanks to, you guessed it, Tiktok.

Beach Weather’s music has always sounded perfectly in line with the band name: laidback, guitar-driven pop ideal for the summer sun. The new track, “Unlovable,” fits into a similar sound, but packs a punch with self-deprecating lyrics and hypnotic drums and guitar that signal a new era for the band. The track also showcases Nick Santino’s vocals in a different light than the typical Beach Weather song, louder and more passionate than ever to the point that you can’t help but shout “How’d I get so damn unlovable” alongside him. “Unlovable” is honest, acknowledging the flaws that make someone hard to love and wishing for just the smallest bit of validation after feeling like a letdown. This project has never seen such confessional lyricism until this track, giving a good taste of what is to come from Santino’s growing strength as a songwriter.

Fans have been begging for the band’s return for years now, and this new single is bound to make listeners both new and old excited for the future of Beach Weather. Check out the new track and be sure to catch the band live if they’re in your area this October!
