Song Review: “Saturday Night” by Lemondrop

Headed by Joni Lemons, Nashville-based band Lemondrop is breathing new life into the alt scene with the release of their latest single “Saturday Night”, their third single of 2022.

First teased on Instagram on January 19th, “Saturday Night” is an angsty anthem to combatting the anxiety that comes with coming of age that declares, “So what if I don’t know what I'm doing with my life/so what if I'm alone every Saturday night.” A departure from their typically mellow, soft rock style, Lemondrop uses rough, impactful vocals and gritty guitars to drive home the chaotic uncertainty of the track. Singing, “I’ve got my hands up/I’m singing a song through a hairbrush/that came out in 2010,” they hit on various elements of embracing your inner child, and realizing that you don't have to give up on being carefree in favor of growing up.

Lemondrop has been releasing new music and playing a variety of shows around the country throughout 2022. I cannot recommend them and their music enough.

“Saturday Night” is out now on all streaming platforms.
