Our contributor, Mak, talked to bassist Tyler Albertson about the release of ‘Permanent Resolution’ and the band’s return to touring life!
Q: Was there anything different about the songwriting process for ‘Permanent Resolution’ than your usual writing routine?
A: This song is among a small number of songs that we wrote totally from scratch in one room together. Typically myself or Ryan will have most of, if not all of an idea for a song and present it to the rest of the band. Songs that come out of nowhere like this one usually end up being our personal best and favorites.
Q: what was the process of creating the cover art for the single? Was there any outside inspiration behind it?
A: Ryan’s brother Mike shot a music video for the song. He was messing around with some stuff in editing and found some overexposed footage that essentially blended all of our faces together, and with a little editing presented what is now the single art. He called it a happy accident. We just thought it was really cool! It fits the vibe of the song super well.
Q: You’re getting ready to head out on a cross country tour next month, which will be your first tour of this length since pre-2020. What cities are you most looking forward to playing in again?
A: We always love to hit the west coast as we don’t get to very often. Chain Reaction in Anaheim will be great. Boston, Pittsburgh, and of course, Chicago are some personal favorites among us. We are excited for it all and just to be going back on the road!
Q: What’s your favorite lyric in ‘Permanent Resolution’ and why?
A: ‘You got me feelin’ a bit like a fool.’ The line is so simple, but perfectly sums up the idea of the song: being head over heels for someone at your own expense. Also, the word fool has a great inflection when used in a song.
