Song Review: “At the End of the Day” by Wallows

Los Angeles alternative rock band, Wallows, premiered their latest single, “At the End of the Day”, on March 4th. The track is the third and final single to be released from their upcoming album, “Tell Me That It’s Over”, which will be released on March 25th.

Wallows’ vocals are typically provided by either Dylan Minette or Braeden Lemasters, with this single being Braeden’s turn to show off his talents. The single is a synth-driven song about a doomed relationship, where both parties appear to still care for each other despite their failing relationship. Despite the upbeat sound of the song, the lyrics hold a much different tone. Lyrics such as, “But at the end of the day, are we on our way to breaking?”, reveal the narrators fears about their relationship. The song opens with a steady beat that quickly begins to pick up in pace as the song progresses. The chorus is catchy and makes you want to sing along with Lemasters. The synthesizers are a clear nod to an 80s pop influence that many indie singers have been inspired by recently such as Japanese Breakfast and Mitski. The influence shines through but doesn’t feel like a copy of what has already been done.

The change in sound is a direction that Wallows has never fully ventured into, but the dancy new track hints at an album full of fresh sounds that fans new and old will surely enjoy. “At the End of the Day” is available on streaming services now and you can follow the band on Instagram or Twitter to keep up with them @wallowsmusic.
