Song Review: “Hard Candy” by The Summer Set

Since the Summer Set’s hiatus came to an end in 2021, they’ve been just as busy as ever. They just finished a tour as part of Sad Summer Fest, and released new music in anticipation of their comeback album “Blossom”, which is being released September 9th. Their newest single “Hard Candy” is an addictive and fun sounding track about a not-so-fun bad habit. The song covers the feeling of not wanting to continue a one night stand pattern of behavior, but feeling almost addicted to the rush it brings. Despite the positive tone of the music, the lyrics convey a hidden darker regret of this past behavior and yearning for change. While the song takes on a more pop tone than some of the band’s earlier works, it still feels like a Summer Set song. These new songs are genuine and heartfelt, while still being fun and an absolute blast to hear live or sing along with friends, with “Hard Candy” being no exception. They are an example of how to come back to music after taking time off and keep the momentum going. You can listen to “Hard Candy” wherever you stream music, and can keep up with the Summer Set on their social media.
