Song Review: “Flower Mind” by Blair Lee

Blair Lee, a Canadian artist with achievements like collaboration with ModMaxx (Drake, Roy Woods, and Tinashe), put out the ethereal single “Flower Mind” on November 10th, 2022. “Flower Mind” has a soft, dark indie-pop sound with vulnerable lyricism about feelings of longing to be a better version of yourself. The last single released before The Puppy Game EP on December 2nd, “Flower Mind” showcases the deep driven emotional songwriter that is Blair Lee.

Blair Lee's delicate vocals express the struggles of comparison; the single inspired on the streetcar, spotting the aesthetic of a person pedaling on bike with flowers in the basket out the window. The moment escalating to the lingering of someone you want to be like, a way you would like to be, and pondering why you aren’t there yet. With lyrics like “I”m not so dull, I can be bright, it makes a difference when you try.” Lee’s overall message as an artist stems from the truth of darkness with the light of change.

The Puppy Game EP includes previously released singles “Hurdles” and “Peachy World.” Both pop noted yet solemn tracks with the addition of “Flower Mind” leaves listeners highly anticipated to hear the project as a whole. Blair Lee first started writing music when she was ten and is a classically trained pianist. From the small town of Cambridge Ontario, this upcoming artist is one to catch onto early.
