EP Review: Songs For The Willow by One Step Closer
One Step Closer released their newest 3 song EP, Songs for the Willow, last week in anticipation of their first headlining tour. This EP really emphasizes the melodic parts of the melodic hardcore sound that the band does best. Frontman Ryan Savitski explores some new vocal styles that weren’t present on their debut album- singing and screaming layered in a way that breathes life into the EP. This newer sound introduces a new maturity to the band’s music and lyrics. The EP talks about losses experienced as a result of touring, and how they’ve maintained the appreciation for what they’ve earned as they’ve gotten bigger.
Whenever bands change their sound, it’s always a toss-up if they will keep the same quality music as before, but One Step Closer doesn’t have that issue here as they’ve implemented new influences without losing the high quality that keeps fans coming back. In fact, this EP is exciting, and I’m anxiously anticipating what they will do next!! You can stream the EP here!
