Song Review: “Memories” by Conan Gray

Conan Gray mourns the loss of a lover who won’t stay gone with his latest single, Memories

Coming off the massive success of recent singles “People Watching,” “Telepath,” and “Jigsaw” (all of which have garnered millions of streams on Spotify), Gray continues to wow listeners with songs illustrating relatable life experiences that come with growing up. He just recently announced his upcoming album Superache, which is out June 24th.

With an alluring underlying piano line and heartbreakingly somber lyrics, Memories takes listeners through the end of a relationship, reflecting and looking back on the times shared while also longing to move on (‘Please don't ruin this for me / please don't make it harder than it already is / i’m trying to get over this’). Gray describes being haunted by his ex (‘I wish that you could stay in my memories / but you show up today just to ruin things’) despite all of his attempts to move on and leave the past in the past.

Conan Gray is finishing his North American tour leg with debut performances at both weekends of Coachella before heading off for the European leg of his tour. Utilizing cryptic Instagram posts and TikTok videos, Gray has fans on the edge of their seats anticipating what is next.

Memories is out now on all streaming platforms. Superache releases June 24th.
