Single Reviews: You’ll Never Find It If You’re Looking For It by Cataracts

Cataracts, an emo outfit out of Cincinnati, made their explosive debut with the dual single release, You’ll Never Find It If You’re Looking For It, on April 27. From the very first moment of the first song, the punchy guitar guarantees that you’re in for two songs that you won’t be getting out of your head anytime soon.

“Hanging Out With Your Cat,” the first of the two singles, is lead by this incredibly catchy guitar riff, as vocalist and guitarist Christian Gehring sings a refreshingly direct love song. The high energy hook of “Everywhere I go, I wanna be with you” leaves no questions about the tone of the song, and the snappy drums and incredible guitar parts, especially at the end of the song, keep the energy high.

“Propane Accessories,” the other song of the release, keeps this energy up, but with a very different subject matter. “Propane Accessories” delivers an incredibly relatable anthem to any struggling with body image issues, asking in the chorus, “Lately, I’ve been crawling out of my skin/Was this the body I was meant to be put in?” Both songs are high-energy and high-impact, with rich guitars and incredibly snappy drums delivering anthemic emo songs just meant to be screamed along to, and are a must listen for any fans of similar high-energy emo like Arm’s Length or Hot Mulligan.
