Song Review: “SIO” by Have Mercy

Although it felt like it, the world didn’t stop spinning these past few years. It feels like Have Mercy was right there alongside it. The release of these lead singles off the band’s self-titled EP, Have Mercy, out August 26th via ZODHIAC Records remind us that they’re still here. SIO” is representative of a new, more grown up version of the same Have Mercy listeners grew to love. The band remains open about the process of hitting the resume button on this project and the sound reflects that. “SIO” is a track about waiting, and waiting impatiently, on someone. The track portrays an all or nothing situation. Wanting someone to say what’s on their mind is certainly a familiar feeling for anyone but this second single off of the self-titled EP does an amazing job of making the listener feel it again. Once again, this still feels like a Have Mercy track above all else. There’s a comforting familiarity in “SIO” that reminds you the Baltimore emo band never really left. Ultimately, it feels like the perfect place to pick up where we left off. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for the band’s self-titled EP, Have Mercy, out August 26th, to continue to indulge in the band’s resumption of their signature place in the scene.
